Job description Supervising Intensivist

Our client is a big hospital on a Caribbean island. The healthcare offered by the hospital encompasses nearly all specialisms. Due to the contrast between the island's relatively small population and the hospital's broad orientation, there are many foreign specialists and other employees working in the hospital. Add to this the fact that the island is a popular tourist destination, and you have a lively, international environment in which clear communication and multiversatility are key.

The hospital is currently looking for a supervising intensivist for a period of approximately two months. Its intensive care unit consists of six beds, but is to be expanded to eight once more personnel is hired. It is an intensivist-guided ICU in which the intensivist does not work as the main physician. All paperwork and documentation is handled manually, and no medical interns work in the department.

Shifts during weekdays last from either 7AM to 3PM (day shifts) or 3PM to 7AM (night shifts). Seeing as you will be part of a team consisting of two other intensivists, you will be asked to work weekend shifts once every three weeks. These shifts last from 7AM on Saturday to 7AM on Monday.

Working conditions

You act as a supervising intensivist for a period of approximately two months. During this time, you will work a shift every two or three days. Physical presence during an entire shift is not always required, though you must remain available for emergencies and admissions of new patients at any time during a shift. The admissions in this ICU are particularly varied. These include: trauma, pulmonology, neurotrauma, pancreatitis, sepsis, and thorax surgery, among others.

As such, it is required that you are broadly oriented and possess communication skills that are no less than excellent. Due to the international nature of the environment, it is required that you are proficient at the English language.
